The concept of Meet Goiás arose unpretentiously to address some gaps in presenting and positioning Goiás on the international stage. The creator of the brand and founder of Ninomiya Group, Akira Ninomiya Jr., in 2019, was invited to give a lecture in New York and took the opportunity to visit the Brazil-America Chamber of Commerce. Having lived in other countries such as the United States and Japan, and having interacted with people of various nationalities, Akira often received the comment when mentioning his hometown and state: “I’ve never heard of it…”. For the meeting with the Chamber of Commerce, Akira searched for materials in English that would demonstrate the potential of the State of Goiás to initiate dialogues and strengthen business and cooperation ties. He looked into the Foreign Trade area of one of the oldest state associations and also in the State Government, but did not find updated or sufficient materials.

During the meeting at the Brazil-America Chamber of Commerce in Downtown Manhattan, in dialogue with Executive Director Ted Helms (who also was unfamiliar with the State of Goiás), Akira mentioned this deficiency in presenting and positioning Goiás on the international stage. He presented a preliminary version of Meet Goiás, which included a multilingual platform, a documentary series, and international events. The proposal was well-received, so much so that space at the Chamber was made available for the first Meet Goiás Expo – New York, right in Downtown Manhattan. The same project was also presented for partnerships in Japan, resulting in the Meet Goiás Expo – Tokyo. Both events were scheduled for 2020 but were canceled due to the pandemic.
During the pandemic, Meet Goiás activities were adapted to an online model and focused on supporting typical businesses of Goiás, such as crafts and gastronomy, which were heavily affected. Now that the challenging period has passed, Meet Goiás enters its 2.0 phase, reviving its original proposal enriched with the experiences gained during the pandemic.
Documentary Meet Goiás. An online series dedicated to presenting the potential and beauty of Goiás to the world, through its economic strength, typical gastronomy, tourist beauty and cultural tradition.
Having overcome the challenging period, Meet Goiás enters its 2.0 phase, rescuing its original proposal, now enriched with the experiences acquired during the pandemic.
